Crowdsourcing

1. What is Jeff Howe's definition of crowd sourcing?
Crowdsourcing is the act of taking a job traditionally perofrmed by an employee and outsorcing it to an undefined, generally large  group of people  in the form of an open call.

What does this video believe is the key to successful crowdsourcing?
Manage focused crowds by;
1- Build and unify a crowd of tip top freelancers.
2-Give them a web platform.
3-Manage and market the crowd.
4-Take on Goliath!

2. Why do "crowds" form on the internet?
Crowds are formed when people get together through shared interest to form a community.

What are the crucial terms in Jeff howe's idea of crowdsourcing? why are these crucial?
Open call and undefined, there is no single target audience when an open call is made, the call is made to everyone and anyone who wants to respond can respond.
open call is crucial to get lots of sources, no all are reliable but all offer opinions and views.

Name two reasons why crowd sourcing is now possible?
The internet provides communities with a platform to communicate with each other through, also the internet does not just let local people communicate but crowds are now able to communicate with any other person with an internet connection.
Advertising now plays a strong role in business and the internet, adverts can be used to make open calls which can now reach any person.

3.
Swarm sketch
This is an online webpage which uses people visiting the website to draw pictures, the picture topic changes after 1 week or when 1000 lines are drawn. Visitors to the website get to vote on the opacity of the lines which is shown to you, this makes the picture more of a group effort. SwarmSketch was developed by Peter Edmunds as part of an honours project at the University of Canberra.
Not very effective as there isn't that many hits and the theory behind the website has a small audience that it would appeal to.
The motivation behind this website would probably be artistic and the ideal of creating a picture as a community, with a fair opportunity for opinions on it's creation.

Linking park: featuring you
The task of this competition was to remix Linkin Park's song "The catalyst," The open call was made online which meant it was open to everyone willing to enter their remix.
