Introduction- Talk about the relationship between producers and audiences. Pre broadband, producers would be the ones to decide what everybody would watch and would control how audiences would view the media. for example there would only be a few channels on the tv and just blockbusters and a select few independent films at the cinema. Now with broadband and such sites like Youtube it is the audiences that make the media for audience, this is called prosumers, this ties in with henry jekins' theory of participatory culture where everybody can produce their own media. This has changed the way that audiences watch film and tv.
Main- Changes with production because of the broadband internet generation, anybody can put their own videos on sites like youtube or vimeo, people like Charlie McDonnel now can make a good living by making youtube videos, these people are called prosumers as they are still banded as an audience of media but they also produce videos and other things. Again links with Henry Jenkins, participatory culture. Exhibition - because of broadband film trailers are available 24/7 at a wide variety of different websites and they are generally relased way before they would be on tv or in the cinema, this allows sites like Ultra Culture (an informal but well informed and articulate review of different movies) to become a sufficient way of getting the latest news about new and old films. And now popular review has become a more relied upon source compared with critic review.
Crowd sourcing is another product of broadband, this is when for example a band or a movie producer will put out onto sites like Mindshare that they are looking for people who have certain skills to work on a project with them, this allows them to get free support etc with making their media product. Crowd sourcing is a term that was coined by Jeff Howe

Q. To what extent do you believe that contemporary representations of a particular social group mirror current attitudes towards that group?
Intro- Explain the three contemporary representations. Also, discuss that we're covering Britishness.
To what extent do you believe that contemporary representations of a particular social group mirror current attitudes towards that group?
Paragraph 1- One key scene is from the Inbetweeners. This is evident when they are shown destroying their neighbors garden with a golf club. This shows that they feel fine with disrespecting their elders and are not afraid of the sanctions that they may face if caught. A theory to back this up is Marcuse. A passive audience will watch this and view all teenagers to be like this and will interpret them to behave like this as the norm. I disagree as this is only based on a tv show and may not be based on true day to day activities.
This is contrasted in An education in which jenny is represented as respectful to her elders. We see this in the scene where she jenny arks permission from her father to whether she can see David, an older man. the seen shows the dynamic of power as there is an low angle shot of jenny's father suggesting power. This representation of teenager attitude is what we expect as an audience it would be. as an current attitudes towards teenagers of that era is that they were respectful. This ties into the fact the film was made recently but set 1950s , its a view we have of the past.
Paragraph 2 - Sexuality is something that has been changing over the past 60 years, but it has been slyly and obviously there in comedys. In 'Are you being Served' there is a key scene where one of the worker is obviously gay as his actions and manner show it, but it is never mention that he is gay. To contrast this in a modern day comedy 'the inbetweeners' the gay character is very readily spoken about and refered to as gay, bent and many other things. In one particular scene they decride him very rudely, but it is not scene as an issue.

In the last few years what have been the most significant developments in how individuals use the internet?
Intro: explain how the internet has changed and how individuals use it differently, e.g. business, crowd sourcing, participatory culture, expansion of the niche market . say a sentence or 2 which shows your understanding of the question. e.g give brief example of significant development. accessible and become part of a norm.
Significant development's in the internet have impacted individual lifestyles making the internet a major part of their life, and for some their career.
Expedition: significant development because you can access illegal TV downloads so we can break away from the TV schedule and watch shows when we want to watch them, and also down load to our mp4 players and ipods so we can watch them wherever aswell as when ever.
The internet has expanded the niche market, it allows individual small film firms to be successful, before the internet niche films were very expansive and hard to get hold of, the internet and websites such as amazon have allowed them to stock niche markets, giving consumers a larger variety of films to buy. this changes induviduals lifestyles as they have access to so many more movies. This links in with Chris Anderson's longtail theory, This allows Small movie firms to make as much money as Blockbuster movies, the difference is that block busters make money right at the start e.g. first weekend and then make very little after that, small movies make their money slowly over a long period of time.
Adverts are tailored for individual computer users, Cookies record everything you are doing on the internet, this allows the websites to predict other products you may be interested in , amazon have a feature which allows you to see other products which other customers have bought at the same time as buying the product you are looking at.
How has the internet affected me: Online shopping much easier, e-commerce, social networking. ek9 forums.

Question 1
What impacts has the internet had on media production, distribution and exhibition?
Intro:
- Broadband has made media available worldwide and anytime
- Broadband internet has allowed people to provide services to people and homogunised cultures.
Para 1:
- Broadband has allowed anyone to become a producer of media via platforms such as youtube.com. Henry Jenkins theory of participatory culture expresses this. This is because everyone can create and upload videos so they are prosumers.
-This expands communities
- Extend opportunities
- Exchange knowledge
- Broadband has connected the whole world and allows anybody to exhibit their media and become online celebs.
Para 2:
- Broadband has made distribution of media easy
- Chris andersons long tail theory explains this by saying that pre broadband niche films and media were hard to find and expensive but since the introduction of a global broadband it has made distribution of media easier and cheaper
- Also globalisation has lessened trade barriers so global media organisations like google have become global players because they reach a worldwide audience.
- has spread the wests message across the world because most global companies come from the wests.
-creatres cultural homogensation
Para 3:
- Production of media has improved with broadband by using sites like mindshare.com to get help from professionals to create media products.
- Jeff Howes theory Crowd Sourcing says that when someone puts their intent out onto the internet and then gets free support/info/ideas and labour from other people via the internet to create a product.

Question 2
2) In the last few years what have been the most significant development in how individuals use the internet?
INTRO
INTRO
- In the last few years, significant developments have occurred which have affected how individuals used the internet.
- The internet used to be used as a complex resource for only the technologically minded.
- Due to globalization of conglomerate companies combined with Henry Jenkins' Participatory Culture theory the internet is now accessible to the masses.
- Globalization is pushing out the small companies (i.e. independent film makers) and replacing them with larger companies with Western values (i.e. Pixar). In turn, this creates Cultural Homogenisation which is when the views of the Western society spread around the world, overpowering the cultural values of the other countries)
- Participatory Culture is the opportunity for anyone to create and upload videos to websites like YouTube, which expands communities, extends opportunities and exchanges knowledge.
- This growing accessibility to the lesser known media products available is demonstrated by Chris Anderson's Long Tail theory. This theory shows how the little known niche products, when combined, can bring about the same amount of profit as a blockbuster. For example, Little Miss Sunshine was intended for the niche indie market, but due to the continuation of access for it, it has become a well known niche film and sustained profit.
- Due to the significant developments of individuals using the internet niche products are more easily available, thus leading to the continuation of profit.
- Because of the growing use of the internet and the sheer amount of people using it, the communication capacity is now larger and we can use approaches like Jeff Howe's Crowd Sourcing. Crowd Sourcing is when someone submits their idea to the world on a website so that as many people as possible can contribute their time and knowledge to the project. An example of this would be Ok Go's alternative music video for the song 'This Too Shall Pass'. The lead singer posted his idea on the website 'Mindshare' and volunteers came together to create the video for a very low budget.
- The internet has become a vital worldwide used resource.
2. In the last few years what have been the most significant developments in how individuals use the internet?
introduction -
PARICIPATORY CULTURE - Henry Jenkins says that we able to create and share with websites such as youtube. This however is not necessarily correct since it has been proven the majority of people using Youtube are white middle aged men.
LONGTAIL - Chris Anderson, niche markets. This theory is believable since we can access obscure products on websites such as amazon which caters for a wider market.
JEFF HOWE- Crowd sourcing means people can create their own media very cheaply with the help of other people willing to join in.
Conclusion
Future. in the future i believe that the internet will take over the tv and everyone will be watching everything online. nuffsaid.

What impact has the internet had on media production, distribution and exhibition?
What was the internet for?
The internet was created simply just for scientifical information to be sent quickly between scientist.
Production- Since the internet has developed, the ways in which people can collect information and ideas is much more accessible. The impact this has had on production is that people like OkGo can use crowd-sourcing to put out a advertisement as such, for ideas and help to which several people will help with they're video. This was less time consuming then trying to find people when people came to them. In addition to this, we now live in a 'partcipary culture' which means that anyone 'average Joe' can make videos on youtube and become popular and even make a living out of it. For example, Charlie McDonnell started making short, comedy videos and has become very popular through people watching his youtube channel.
Distribution- Due to globalization through the internet, the western culture has reached a wider audience. The eastern world can now access american shows such as Desperate Housewives and niche films such as 'Joan de Florette' through the internet. The impact this has on the distribution is that western messages and values are being adopted by the eastern culture. This is known as cultural homogenization. Since 1994, when products were first being sold on the internet, the way in which people now watch and buy they're films has widened. Instead of being restricted to the selected few films on the shelf in the local supermarket or HMV, websites such as Amazon.com have supplied us with a unlimited selection of films, music and books. The wider variety means that more products for specific target audiences are available. Niche films can be found a lot easier and are much cheaper to buy.
Exhibition- Due to the advancement of the internet we can now download almost all tv shows or watch them both legally and illegally on the internet. Little Miss Sunshine was given a website for the target audience of the film. For examples, the page suggested links for VW lovers to visit ebay, or pages to customize you're own VW. for its time, the page was very advanced in interaction with it's consumers. However, now E4's webpage for Misfits has made Little Miss Sunshine look ever so basic. You can now play games, there is individual pages on the characters and you can like and follow the program on facebook and twitter promoting it to othes. This means there is a new connection between the producers and the target audience/consumers is created and becomes more interactive.

Question 1. practise question.
production- Internets impact- Crowd sourcing allows production teams to receive feedback from the internet to what a target market wants as well as feedback from ideas. This is free support and such examples are from Okgo who received free labour and equipment in the production of there music video.
Globalization- The globalization of TV and film on the internet has been mainly produced by American production teams. The effect of this is , it produces an image of American values and messages that are widely watched by the wider audiences across the world. Production teams are influenced by this copying and producing similar products of TV and film streamed on he internet ,shown through you tube and other streaming sites.
Distribution- Hnery Jenkins participatory culture. Everyone is a producer. This means that they can distribute their products through youtube for free. This also can help small productions become well known through viral marketing and the Long Tail theory. The internet also helps prosumers. They can use websites like youtube to streamline their films or TV shows. This was shown through 'born of hope' film that is meant to be a prequel of Lord of the Rings. Social networking allows the consumer to distribute pieces of media without realizing. For example, posting a song on your Facebook wall.
exhibition- The impact of the internet on exhibition has allowed films to generate a following through there own websites. Examples - little miss sunshine , misfits.
Film and TV have a platform to release trailers that can help produce an hype / more audiences for the film or TV.
